This policy explains what data Salwa Co-operative Society collects when you use the Society's app, how it is used, who it is shared with, and what rights you have over it.
1) What we collect
a. Data that stays on your device and never reaches us
The app stores the following on your phone and does not send it to us:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Interface language | So the app opens in Arabic or English as you chose |
| Shopping cart | So it isn't lost if you close the app |
| Favourites list | To show them to you in "Account" |
| Membership box number | To display your card and its barcode |
| Your phone number if you choose "Sign in" | To fill it in for you when you order |
| Your recent orders on this device | To show "Order again" |
This data sits in the app's storage on your device, and all of it is erased when you delete the app.
b. Data that reaches us
While you are only browsing, we receive nothing that identifies you — no name, phone number or account. The only things that can reach us then are anonymous: the usage measurement in (c) below, and only if you allow it, and a technical error report if the app fails. Your personal data reaches us in two cases: when you complete an order, and when you save an address to your account.
When you complete an order, we receive:
- Name — first and last
- Phone number, to contact you about the order
- Email — optional
- Delivery address: area, block, street, building, and any extra details you write
- Order contents, quantities and value
- The payment and delivery method you chose
- Your notes on the order, if you wrote any
- Your shareholder box number, if you enter it — saved with the order so Society staff can see it belongs to a shareholder. It is a label only: no discount, no credit, no purchase accrual attaches to it.
Addresses saved to your account:
If you sign in and save a delivery address in "Account", that address is stored on the Society's servers — not on your device alone — so it can be filled in for you at checkout without retyping it.
It stays stored with us until you delete it: delete the address from "My Account" and it is deleted from our servers, and deleting your account deletes all of your saved addresses.
c. What we do not collect
- No advertising, no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers. We do not sell your data or share it with anyone; none of it passes through a third-party company.
- And we measure app usage — only if you allow it. The app asks you on first open, the default is off, and you can change it any time from "My Account". What we send when you allow it: the screens you open; the products, categories and banners shown to you and the ones you tap; what you add to and remove from the cart; the words you type into search and the shopping-list lines you type in the "My list" tab; the order and payment steps (the amount rounded to the nearest dinar, the payment method, and a short code if a payment fails — never the order number); notification opens and sign-ins; and the device type and app version. What we never send: your name, phone, email, address, box number, notes, or anything that identifies you — our measurement table has no column for any of that, nor for your device address. Measurement is tied to a random session number and to a random device number the app creates, which does not identify you and is never linked to your name or account; it is erased from your device when you turn the option off, and turning it back on creates a new number unconnected to the old one. It stays on the Society’s own servers.
- Anonymous error reports. If the app hits an error, it sends the Society’s own server a technical report — the error message, the screen it happened on, the app version and the phone’s system (iOS or Android) — without your name, phone, account or anything that identifies you, so we can fix it.
- We do not ask for your location. You write the address yourself.
- We do not collect dates of birth or any sensitive data.
- Your civil ID — plainly: the Society’s shareholder register holds the last four digits of each shareholder’s civil ID. That register is the Society’s own long-standing record, imported from its management system — it was not gathered through the app. When you enter your box number in the app we ask for those last four digits for matching only, because box numbers are sequential and without a second factor anyone could harvest shareholder names by trying numbers. Those four digits are not stored in the app, not sent with your order, and not retained as a result of your using the app — they are compared, then discarded.
- We do not store your card details. Electronic payment takes place directly at the payment gateway, and your card number never passes through the Society's servers.
2) The camera
The app asks for camera permission for one purpose only: scanning a product barcode to show its price.
The scan happens entirely on your device. No photo is taken, no photo is uploaded, and nothing is saved. The app uses the camera only when you open the scanner screen yourself, and refusing the permission does not stop you using the rest of the app.
3) Why we use your data
We use it for three purposes and no others:
- To fulfil your order: preparing it, delivering it, and contacting you about it.
- To make your next order easier: keeping the addresses you choose to save to your account.
- To meet legal obligations: retaining sales records and invoices as required by accounting and tax regulations in the State of Kuwait.
We do not use your data for marketing unless you expressly ask us to, and we neither sell it nor rent it to anyone.
4) Who it is shared with
| Party | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery driver | Your name, phone and address | To deliver the order |
| Electronic payment gateway | The order amount and number | To collect payment — your card number never reaches us |
| Official authorities | What is officially requested | Upon a binding legal request |
We do not share your data with anyone else.
5) Where your data is stored
It is stored on the Society's servers inside Kuwait and is not transferred outside the country.
The connection between the app and the server is fully encrypted (HTTPS).
6) How long it is kept
| Data | Period |
|---|---|
| Order and invoice data | 5 years, as accounting regulations require |
| Contact data (name, phone, address) | As long as your account exists, then deleted on your request |
| Addresses saved to your account | Until you delete them or delete your account |
| What is stored on your device | Until you delete the app |
7) Your rights
At any time you may:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Correct any inaccurate data
- Delete your saved addresses yourself from "Account"
- Request deletion of your data or of your account — except what we are legally required to keep (invoice records)
- Withdraw your consent to any optional use
To make a request, contact us through the channels in section 9. We reply within 3 working days.
8) Children
The app is intended for adult members of the Society. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under eighteen. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
